Zet-1

Variable star

Its story

Zeta-1 Scorpii is a blue hypergiant more than 2,500 light-years away, one of the intrinsically most luminous stars known in our galaxy. It belongs to the Scorpius OB1 stellar association, a young region teeming with massive suns destined to explode as supernovae. Its apparent brightness, dimmed by sheer distance and interstellar dust, conceals a power great enough to light entire regions of nearby sky.
