Hot blue starIts story
1 Scorpii is a blue type-B star burning around 495 light-years away, perched at the very threshold of the Scorpion near the border with Libra. Its incandescent surface easily exceeds twenty thousand degrees, a temperature that turns it into a quiet beacon among the bright luminaries of the stinger. Its light took nearly five centuries to arrive; when it left, Galileo had not yet aimed his spyglass at the sky.
