What is 47 Herculis
47 Herculis is an A-type white star 178 light-years away, one of the closest Flamsteed-numbered stars in the celestial Hero. Its clean light, hotter than the Sun's, set out during the heart of the European industrial revolution. It belongs to that category of young and vigorous suns that have not yet begun to swell toward old age.
Where it is and when to see it
47 Herculis lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is May: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
