What is Larawag
Larawag glows orange at the heart of Scorpius, only 63.7 light-years away. A class-K star, cooler and older than the Sun, it ranks among the few stellar neighbours we see shining inside such a dramatic constellation. Its name comes from the Wardaman people of northern Australia, who regarded it as a guide for hunters and fishermen, a rare flash of indigenous astronomy among the Greek and Arabic names that populate the night sky.
Where it is and when to see it
Larawag lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is June: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
