Just 85 light-years away — astronomical small change — a yellow-white F-type star keeps watch from Draco, the circumpolar dragon. Its light departed around 1941, in the middle of the Second World War, as the first operational wartime radars were being built. That wave, indifferent to human history, has crossed the void to reach us only now.

HIP 82020 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is April: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
