What is Kornephoros
Kornephoros, beta Herculis, is a yellow G-class giant that has left youth behind and entered its mature phase. Its Greek name means 'club-bearer', referring to the weapon slung on the constellation's shoulder. At 139 light-years it shines discreetly beside the more famous stars of the northern summer, yet reminds us that every constellation needs muscle as well as myth.
Where it is and when to see it
Kornephoros lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is May: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
