Epsilon Normae is a blue-white triple some 530 light-years away: the inner pair is a double-lined spectroscopic binary, two nearly identical B4 V twins circling each other every 3.26 days on a slightly eccentric orbit. Far beyond, a third B9 star joins them, separated by 22.8 arcseconds and reachable with steady binoculars in the small southern constellation of the Set Square.
Where it is and when to see it
Epsilon Norma lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is June: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
