What is HIP 79195
An orange K-type star shines quietly within Serpens, cooler than the Sun and bearing a warm, amber-like hue. Its light set out almost five centuries ago, when Copernicus published «De revolutionibus» and overturned Earth s place in the cosmos. After 479 light-years, that warm gleam arrives as a belated nod to the first man who dared to displace us from the centre and redraw the map of the sky.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 79195 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is May: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
