Its story
6 Serpentis is a binary system 239 light-years away, an orange K-type giant accompanied by a stellar partner. It lives in Serpens Caput, the head of the only constellation split into two bodies, held in the hands of Ophiuchus. Its light departed around the mid-eighteenth century, when the great stellar catalogues of Lacaille and Messier were yet to be compiled.
