Hot blue starIts story
In the curved claws of the Scorpion burns a blue flame 444 light-years away, a fragment of a recent star-forming region. Its light set out around 1582, the very year Pope Gregory XIII reformed the calendar and Europe leapt ten days at once. Hot B-types are stars of brief, brilliant youth: they are born in clusters and die together within a few million years.
