What is HIP 87472
In the curved sting of Scorpius, that lethal silhouette of the southern summer sky, burns a yellow giant 792 light-years away. Its light departed around 1234, when the legal codes of Alfonso X the Wise were being drafted in Castile and the written word was starting to structure Europe. An evolved G star, Sun-like but older, sending its glow from that nascent age of law.

HIP 87472 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is June: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
