Omega-1 Scorpii belongs to the young Sco-Cen complex, the closest stellar association to Earth, a brotherhood of blue suns born almost simultaneously from the same cloud of gas. It is a hot B-type star whose intensely blue light takes some 470 years to reach us. Alongside its visual twin Omega-2, it forms a pair that splits cleanly in binoculars, two distinct flames bound to the same cosmic cradle and still deep in stellar adolescence.

Omega 1 Scorpii lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is May, when it culminates around midnight.

- From New York it culminates about 29° above the horizon.
- From Sydney it culminates about 77° above the horizon.
It can be seen from anywhere south of 69° N.
It ranks no. 19 in brightness among the 104 stars of Scorpius in our catalogue. To find it, start from Antares, the brightest: it lies about 8° away (a fist at arm's length covers about 10°).
