What is Iota 1 Norma
Iota-1 Normae is a white star about 129 light-years away, in a small constellation invented in the eighteenth century to honour the cartographer's set square. It is close in stellar terms and lies in a southern sky corner crossed by the Milky Way. There, among dust clouds and dense star fields, its clean light stands out like a precision instrument.
Where it is and when to see it
Iota 1 Norma lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is June: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
