Kappa Coronae Borealis is an orange subgiant some 99 light-years away with a confirmed planet: Kappa Coronae Borealis b, a gas giant of twice Jupiter's mass discovered in 2007 that takes 3.4 years to complete an orbit. In 2013 it also became the first subgiant ever imaged with a resolved circumstellar dust belt —that belt rings Kappa itself.

Kappa Coronae Borealis lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is May, when it culminates around midnight.

From London it culminates about 74° above the horizon.
From New York it culminates about 85° above the horizon.
From Sydney it culminates about 20° above the horizon.

It can be seen from anywhere north of 54° S.
