What is HIP 77370
Coiled in the northern spirals of Draco, this white A-type star glows about 240 light-years away. Its light began its journey around 1785, when William Herschel was publishing his maps of the Milky Way and Mozart was premiering The Marriage of Figaro. Hotter and brighter than the Sun, its white surface radiates with liveliness. We contemplate it today as a postcard from the late Enlightenment crossing the northern sky.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 77370 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is April: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
