What is Eta Librae
Eta Librae is a white A-type star lying some 149 light-years away, in Libra, the constellation that Rome separated from the old claws of the Scorpion to give the zodiac a symbol of balance. Its sharp light, slightly hotter than the Sun's, marks a discreet point between the celestial pans from which the asterism takes its name.
Where it is and when to see it
Eta Librae lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is May: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
