What is HIP 75565
In the discreet Southern Triangle shines an orange K-class giant, lying a little over three hundred and forty light-years away. Its coppery light departed when the Jesuit astronomers were measuring the sky from Beijing and Dutch sailors were refining their charts of the southern Pacific. It belongs to that family of ageing stars which, far broader than the Sun but cooler, shine with an amber calm that seems frozen in time.

HIP 75565 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is May: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
