What is Phi 1 Lupi

Phi-1 Lupi is an orange giant of type K resting some 275 light-years away, in the silhouette of the southern Wolf. Its warm light, stretched across centuries, reaches Earth aged and serene, the calm glow of a star that has long left its main-sequence youth behind. To the naked eye it is one of the quiet embers outlining the Centaur's beast, stitched between Antares and the Southern Cross.

Phi 1 Lupi lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is May, when it culminates around midnight.

It can be seen from anywhere south of 54° N.
