Variable starIts story
In the silhouette of the southern Wolf burns a blue B-class star, variable and still young, lying some three hundred and sixty light-years away. The cold light that now describes it set out when the European kingdoms were consolidating their absolute monarchies and Dutch ships were sailing for the East Indies. Its brightness is not steady: it oscillates slowly, like a blue pulse, recalling how violent the interior of the youngest stars can be.
