Its story

Some 214 light-years away, in the vast Centaurus, a white type A star has carried its light since the days when Napoleon was redrawing Europe and the first steamboats began smoking over the Seine. Hotter than the Sun and several times more luminous, it offers a clean, sharp glow within a constellation the southern sky recognises as wise Chiron, tutor of heroes.
