What is 32 Boötis
32 Boötis is a yellow G-type star, similar in colour to the Sun but 403 light-years away. It lives within Boötes, the autumn-and-spring figure that hosts brilliant Arcturus and that tradition has identified as a shepherd or celestial ploughman. To observe it is to implicitly compare our own star with one from the same family, separated by a gulf whose light takes four centuries to cross.
Where it is and when to see it
32 Boötis lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is April: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
