What is HIP 70035
It carries the crisp whiteness of an A-type star in Centaurus, that southern hemisphere so welcoming to ancient sailors. Its light took just over a century and a half to arrive: it set out when Daguerre was fixing the first images on silver plates and the daguerreotype was born as a mirror of the world. Hotter and more luminous than the Sun, though its expected lifespan will be far shorter. The centaur shelters it without showing it off.

HIP 70035 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is May: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
