Variable starIts story
Its red light left Boötes around the year 1264, when the cathedral of Burgos was being completed and the Christian kingdoms were pressing south through the Iberian peninsula. It is an M-type star, cool and reddish, and variable as well: its brightness shifts over time, in slow pulses. Boötes has long been seen as a herdsman or ploughman, tied to his yoke of oxen around the North Pole.
