What is HIP 67143
In Hydra glows a white A-type star whose light set out around 1741, in the heart of the European Enlightenment. Hotter and more luminous than the Sun, it carries that clean tone of young stars that have not yet matured. After nearly three centuries of travel, it arrives as a serene flash within one of the sky's longest and most ancient constellations.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 67143 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is April: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
