Variable starIts story
In the immense Centaurus pulses a red variable star some 514 light-years away. Its light set out around 1512, when Michelangelo was finishing the vault of the Sistine Chapel and the Renaissance reached its summit. A cool giant, swollen to colossal proportions, its brightness waxes and wanes in a slow rhythm, like a stellar heart preparing for its final seasons.
