Its story
82 Ursae Majoris is an A-type white star 175 light-years away, set in the region of the Great Bear but far from the famous bowl. Its clean, faintly bluish light is the signature of a star hotter and younger than the Sun, still generously burning hydrogen. It set out for us around 1850, when refracting telescopes were winning the battle of clear air against the smoke of the first industrial cities.
