Cool red starIts story
Its red light left Boötes around the year 1567, when Philip II reigned in Spain and the Council of Trent had just closed its sessions. It is an M-type star, cool and deeply tinted, at a late stage of its stellar life. Boötes —with its kite-like shape and its orange giant Arcturus— was regarded by the ancient Greeks as the guardian of the two bears.
