What is HIP 64623

In Centaurus, the wise creature half-man and half-horse, glows an orange K-type giant 235 light-years away. Its warm light set out in the midst of the French Revolution, around the year the Bastille fell and the old regime began to crumble. Cooler than the Sun but more voluminous, it pulses quietly among the centaur's muscles, far from the bustle of the great celestial capitals.

HIP 64623 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is April: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
