What is HIP 62500
In the vast waters of Hydra shines a yellow sun, a G-type star bulkier than ours whose light crossed 320 years of night to reach us. When it set out, the first Enlightenment encyclopedias were barely being imagined in Parisian salons. At that distance, its glow winds along the endless silhouette of the water serpent, a soft candle lost among the dark scales of the southern sky.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 62500 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is April: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
