Its story
1 Hydrae is a relatively close star —barely 87 light-years away— and at the same time a spectroscopic binary: two components so tightly bound that no telescope can split them; only the spectrum betrays their oscillating lines. An F3 type, its surface tops 6.200 degrees and outshines the Sun by a factor of three and a half. It glows at magnitude 5.61, opening the immensely long body of the Hydra.
