59 Hydrae shines white from 369 light-years away, an A-type star in the coiled body of the Hydra. Magnitude 5.65 places it right at the perceptual edge: catching it requires truly dark skies and knowing where to look among the faint stars sketching the long body of the water-serpent. Its white, hot light gives away a youth not yet spent.
