What is 25 Virginis
25 Virginis is a white A-type star 225 light-years away, in the great figure of the Maiden, well away from the galaxy cluster that dominates the constellation's core. Hotter and whiter than the Sun, it shines with the clean luminosity of a star in full maturity. The light arriving now left around 1801, the year Piazzi discovered Ceres and opened the door to the study of asteroids.
Where it is and when to see it
25 Virginis lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is March: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
