Its light set out around the year 626, when the Byzantine Empire had just survived the siege of Constantinople by Persians and Avars. Magnitude 5.49, right at the edge of what can be perceived under deep skies, its pulsation belongs to the family of stars that have taught modern astronomy how to measure the universe.
