Another blue light from the Southern Cross, this one some three hundred and sixty light years away, travels to us from the era when Tycho Brahe was building his observatory of Uraniborg on a Danish island. Its hot B-type places it among the region's young stars, heirs of the same burst of stellar formation that sculpted the constellation.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 60379 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is April: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
