Rho Centauri is a hot blue B-type star roughly 379 light-years away, in a region of Centaurus crowded with young, massive suns. Its light, perceived as blue-white by the eye, reached Earth after a journey whose beginning roughly coincides with the century when Galileo first turned a telescope upon the sky.
Where it is and when to see it
Rho Centauri lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is April: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
