3 Draconis follows the long serpentine of Draco, the constellation that coils around the northern celestial pole and never sets for observers in high latitudes. It is an orange giant 602 light-years away, with the warm, steady glow stars take on once they leave youth behind. Its light set out as Castile and Aragon were quietly preparing —without knowing it yet— to merge under a single crown; tonight it arrives right on time.

3 Draco lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is February, when it culminates around midnight.

From London it never sets and culminates about 75° up.
From New York it never sets and culminates about 64° up.
From Sydney it never rises above the horizon.

It can be seen from anywhere north of 23° S.
