Within the serpentine body of Hydra glows a temperate orange star some 404 light-years away. Its light —embarked when the first pilgrims were crossing the Atlantic to Plymouth and Galileo was defending heliocentrism in Rome— at last reaches the modern eye. One of those quiet embers that hold up the drawing of the constellations without asking for the spotlight.
