In Cepheus, a circumpolar constellation of the north, shines a white class A star. The light reaching us today set out 270 years ago: it left when James Watt was patenting decisive improvements to the steam engine and the noise of the industrial revolution was beginning to reshape Europe. This light ignores all that smoke: it arrives clean, with no memory of crossing it.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 5626 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is December: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
