Another orange ember in Centaurus, this one 629 light-years away. Its light set out around 1397, when Tamerlane was sacking Delhi and Central Asia trembled under the last of the great nomadic conquerors. The K giant knows nothing of that —it merely burns, indifferent to human turbulence, in one of the most star-crowded corners of the southern sky.
