Variable star

Its story

In Carina, southern remnant of the ancient ship Argo, shines this orange K-type star with subtle variability. Its light set out 305 years ago, around 1719, when Daniel Defoe was publishing «Robinson Crusoe» in London and opening one of the great seams of the modern novel. Cooler and larger than the Sun, its glow shifts slowly, a reminder that even stellar flames of serene appearance harbor inside them the slow pulses of their evolution.
