Its story
In Carina, sailing through the southern Milky Way, shines an orange star at 503 light-years. Its light departed around 1523, when Juan Sebastián Elcano was completing the first circumnavigation and the world was being discovered round on a human scale. Class K, its warm tone contrasts with the many blue stars populating this region rich in open clusters. A golden note in a constellation of dominant whites and blues.
