What is HIP 52965
Once again in Antlia shines, this time, a more distant white star. Its light began its journey 432 years ago, when Pope Gregory XIII was reforming the calendar we still use and Tycho Brahe was measuring stars by naked eye from his Danish island. Hotter than the Sun and of a clear white, it recalls the edge of a well-polished sword in dim light, a brightness without ornament.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 52965 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is March: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
