Hot blue star

Its story

At 480 light years in the Keel, this blue B-type star shines at magnitude 4.87 with a light whose departure coincides with the days when Galileo first pointed his spyglass at the sky. Its surface reaches temperatures far above those of the Sun and gleams with the cold hue that marks the young constellations of the southern hemisphere. It is a natural inhabitant of the great stellar complexes of Carina, a region shaped by intense winds and radiation.
