Highly luminous starIts story
Deep in the southern keel of Carina burns a yellow-white F-type beacon whose light set out almost 1342 years ago, around the time Charlemagne was crowned emperor of the West. It belongs to the rare lineage cataloged here as «luminous», bright enough to register at magnitude 3.81 despite the enormous gulf. A patient flame that crossed the entire Middle Ages to reach a modern eye.
