Upsilon-2 Hydrae burns blue at 314 light-years, sliding along the body of the sky's longest creature, the great Water Snake that stretches across nearly a quarter of the celestial sphere. Like other B-type stars, it is young, massive, and fleeting on cosmic scales. The Hydra grants it a quiet post in her endless meandering — no ancient name attached, but the steady presence of a blue beacon set deep in the southern sky.

Upsilon 2 Hydrae lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is February: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
