Hot blue starIts story
In the sails of Vela beats a blue B-type beacon, about 998 light-years away. Its light set out around the year 1028, deep in the Middle Ages, when the monks of Cluny were raising the largest Christian abbey of their time. Its surface comfortably exceeds 10,000 degrees, a distant blue fire hung among the invisible ropes of the southern ship.
