Its story
18 Leonis is an orange K-type giant in Leo, around 512 light-years away from Earth. Its warm hue, unlike the cool white of most catalogued Flamsteed stars, betrays a surface temperature lower than the Sun's —even though in sheer size and total luminosity it dwarfs our star by far. It pulses red along the lion's back, well away from the showy gleam of Regulus and Algieba.
