In the Sails of ancient Argo, Vela, shines a yellow type-G star 423 light-years away, a colour-sister of the Sun. Its light set its course when Velázquez was painting Las Meninas in the Alcázar of Madrid and the Spanish court gazed in wonder at its own reflection. It shares our star's golden warmth, but distance turns it into a whisper —a candle lit in another continent of the firmament.

HIP 46811 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is March: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
