On the keel of the southern ship burns a blue beacon vibrating from 542.8 light years away. Its light departed when the Lisbon shipyards were still launching caravels toward the Indies —between 1481 and 1483— and European cartography was redrawing the world. The indigo hue betrays a class B surface, far hotter than the Sun, capable of bleaching any chromatic comparison in the sky.

HIP 45101 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is March: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
