What is 75 Cancri

75 Cancri is the closest in this batch: a G-type yellow star at barely 101 light-years, set inside the modest zodiacal Crab. At that distance, its light is almost contemporary —it set out in the early twentieth century, when the first aeroplanes could be heard. It is a spectral cousin of the Sun, a slightly older and more mature sister of the star that gives us our days.

75 Cancri lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is January, when it culminates around midnight.

From London it culminates about 65° above the horizon.
From New York it culminates about 76° above the horizon.
From Sydney it culminates about 29° above the horizon.

It can be seen from anywhere north of 63° S.
